[dt. »Andockstation«] die, Vorrichtung, die dazu dient, einen Mobilcomputer (Notebook, Laptop) wie einen Schreibtischcomputer zu benutzen. Die Docking Station enthält einen Netzanschluss und verbindet den Mobilcomputer mit Ein- und Ausgabegeräten wie Tastatur, Maus, Bildschirm usw., die i. d. R. ergonomischeres Arbeiten als mit dem Mobilcomputer allein ermöglichen, und mit sonstigen Peripheriegeräten (Drucker, Modem u. Ä.). Sie kann auch zusätzliche Steckkarten und Laufwerke bereitstellen.
 
Als Docking Station werden auch Vorrichtungen für Kleinstcomputer (Organizer, PDA, Handheld etc.) bezeichnet, die diese aufnehmen und mit dem PC oder einem anderen Computer verbinden.
 
 
In manchen Fällen genügt statt der Docking Station bereits ein Port Replicator - vor allem dann, wenn keine zusätzlichen Steckkarten benutzt werden müssen.
